What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is a form of therapy that uses art making as a means of expression and communication to help individuals improve their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It is a creative process that combines psychotherapy and art-making to promote healing, personal growth, and self-expression.
The artwork created by you reflects:
what it looks like or feels like to be you; what you were told to believe and to behave; what internal dialogues have been established in life; what you should or should not do; how you should or should not feel; what you should or should not believe etc.
The Art therapy that we offer provides an opportunity in a safe environment to explore what’s behind an artwork and dive deep into your feelings, sensations, thoughts and beliefs. During an art therapy session, the therapist may provide various art materials and encourage you to create art in any way you choose, such as drawing, painting, sculpting, or collage. The unique art creation is then explored and discussed with the therapist, who helps the you interpret and understand the underlying emotions, thoughts, and feelings that are expressed through the artwork. It is a process of bringing unconscious conscious and from this process you would gain insights, wisdom and growth.
Art therapy can be beneficial for individuals with a variety of mental health concerns to help cope with difficult life experiences, build resilience, and promote personal growth.
